Tanzhe Temple

Located 45 kilometers west of Beijing, Tanzhe Temple dates back to the Jin Dynasty (265-420 AD) and is not only the oldest temple in the surrounding hills, but was also once one of Beijing's most important and famous temples.

Despite its old age, most of the temple has been refurbished since Tanzhe became an official satellite tourist attraction; however, the two "Emperor" gingko trees are originals, dating back roughly 1,000 years.

Comprised of the Archway, the Front Gate, Deveraja Hall, Mahavira Hall and Vairochana Pavilion, Tanzhe owns a rich history and is a worthwhile destination for tourists in Beijing for an extended stay.

Early spring is the best time to see the surroundings in full-bloom.

Admission:RMB 55

Hours:7:30am - 5:30pm

How to get there:Take the metro to the Pingguoyuan station (line 1). From there, hop on the 931 bus to the temple stop. The whole trip will take approximately 2 hours from the city center.
