Capital Museum

Preparation work for Capital Museum started as early as in 1953. After several twists and turns, it was finally officially open to the public in 1981.

The museum is located inside Confucius Temple. Beijing Historical Relics Exhibition is a main exhibition with relics dated back to more than 100,000 years ago as well as the quite recent ones of 1949. A series of graphs and charts, models, cultural relics displays the history and development of Beijing from different perspectives. There are not only cultural relics unearthed in Beijing but also many precious donated articles that have been handed down from ancient times, such as the relics of lacquer plate made in Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the kettle of Yuan Dynasty and the cup of Ming Dynasty (1368-1683), etc. Those relics are all rarely seen with unique local features. The article most worth mentioning is called Bangui, a bronze ware used to hold sacrifices made more than 3,000 years ago. Its shape is magnificent with primitive patterns. There is also an inscription as long as nearly 200 characters inside the bronze ware.
